pboy - do a post on Greenspan for us please!! I saw a documentary the other night about a woman that he fought for many years that called for regulation. I can't remember her name at the moment but it was fascinating!

The trouble with libertarians is that there's never been a functioning system that they'd like and there never will be.

Much like the college graduate who wants equality for all women but she really means that women ought to be equally represented in government and business and NOT in the trades and ignoring that women are OVER-represented by businesses in underpaid occupations.

These champions of 'freedom' want equality legislated and 'done away with' at the same time and want to live in a mythological world where people get paid for what THEY know and for what THEY do as opposed to people making a profit from those that know and those that do.

Libertarianism is self-contradictory, imagining that just because we need some of the 'evil' of a 'free market' with all the nepotism and lobbying effort to make it as stacked(as opposed to free) as possible.

Whenever a slightly lefter leaning party get in power these people do their best to undermine the system trying to 'John Galt' it by taking their money(which is the 'hard work' that they brag about) out, trying to grind the economy to a halt, just on principle that if they can't have what they want, they're damned if the liberal leftists are going to.

If the system isn't absolutely choked with their kind of people, skimmers off the top til there is as little of value left as possible and still have a system at all, they are not happy. They'll turn-tables on this and portray government as a bunch of skimmers off the top, yes, the old tu quoque argument, which is our favourite 'no argument at all', that the right-wing and the religious dearly love.

Doctors themselves are 'stuck' in this vise of wanting to help but being, in the end, businessmen, playing golf with their class and parrotting the look-down-the-nose attitude of their peers.

Sure there are truly altruistic, big hospital doctors who see past this hierarchical b.s. because it doesn't really 'touch' them. They are adored for their actual skill and not the 'office' that they hold, which common or garden G.P.s or M.D.s crave because, after all, we're all human.

More on topic, everyone getting medical treatment for emergencies is NOT the same thing as everyone having a right to be treated for medical problems, as Glen Beck and even "The Decider" Bush would have it, is it?

If you're working at all, they'll still send you horrendous bills and have bill collectors garnishee your wages if you visit a hospital in the 'land of the free' and this is hardly a 'medical system' for people who have to go through THAT!

Last words about libertarianism. One of Ayn Rand's clique was a certain Alan Greenspan. Yes, THAT Alan Greenspan, who basically admitted that his libertarianizing of the U.S.A. was completely inappropriate and actually was causing the entire economy to collapse into a banana republic style, couple hundred folk who own EVERYTHING and are never gonna let it go, country.

It's one of those deals where everyone but a very few would be totally screwed and the roughly 50% of Americans who STILL think that it's possible(libertarian style economy), would find out that they too get screwed. Poetic justice? Ironic? Doesn't matter, we can't let that happen, calculating imaginary value to ridiculous numbers with have lost touch with the value of products and services that they are meant to represent would and almost DID, totally fuck us all(minus the 'lords of business')UP.
