Yet another reason to dislike Sarah Palin.
JUNEAU — A new energy research center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for alternative funding after Gov. Sarah Palin last week vetoed a $1.5 million state and federal appropriation for the center.
The Alaska Center for Energy and Power formed in January and is focused on developing new technologies to lower the cost of energy in rural Alaska and attract energy-intensive industry with cheap renewable resources.

Palin recently signed into law HB 152, a bill setting up a fund for renewable energy projects, and she agreed to distribute $50 million in state funds for renewable energy projects this year.
Wait .. I thought she vetoed the funds??
But that money can only go toward projects using proven technologies.
Oh … Now I understand — she wants to research WHERE to drill.
That makes more sense, since her husband works for BP.
Until recently, he earned hourly wages as a production operator in a BP-run facility that separates oil from gas and water. Palin was making between $100,000 and $120,000 a year before he went on leave in December to make more time for his family and avoid potential conflicts of interest. London-based BP is heavily involved in the gas pipeline negotiations with his wife’s administration.
Palin’s advocacy dovetails neatly with his wife’s No. 1 priority: forging a construction contract with private companies to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48. The export of natural gas would presumably replace revenue from the state’s dwindling oil reserves, which funded 80 percent of the state budget last year.
Now – the veto on solar energy I can ALMOST understand, being that Alaska is dark 6 months out of the year. (But it IS light the Other 1/2 of the year, hmmm..)
So let’s add nepotism to the list in addition to the fact that she tried to use “color of authority” to get a state trooper fired – the fact that she doesn’t give a crap about endangered species, and finally (for today at least) and IMO the most important reason, she thinks that it’s OK to teach (her) religion in science class!
John McCain – I beg of you … stay alive!!!
