What? … Impossible! No Way!! A Baptist Church at that!
Unbelieveable. Why? Baptist churches view homosexuality as sinful. I am not sure if this church is Southern Baptist, (although it is likely, considering the area and that it is not on the list of Baptist churches that are accepting of homosexuals ) but SB’s have got to be the most bigoted group I have ever come accross.
This is from SBC dot Net (I won’t link there) :
We cannot presume that all homosexuals are at a higher risk level to molest children or develop into pedophiles than are heterosexuals. Nor would it be appropriate to allow the label homosexual and pedophile to become interchangeable. At the same time, homosexual men who are unable to sustain healthy peer relationships might well find the potential for age-inappropriate attractions more real than they thought possible.
In the last two decades, the issue of child molestation has become front-page news as adults have come forward with accounts of being abused as children. The most sensational of these accounts have involved Catholic priests who were known by their superiors to have molested. These men were often transferred to new parishes by these same superiors, and the abuse continued. In most of these publicized accounts, the victims, though not always, were male children. To most observers, the speculated connection between homosexuality and pedophilia once whispered about went from speculation to declared fact despite any proof to justify that sweeping connection.
POT meet KETTLE.
The camp has been sued five times since 2003 all alleging physical and sexual abuse by counselors.

I found pages and pages of bigotry concerning homosexuality in the Baptist Press just by doing a simple search. I had to narrow my choices and I think I found a pretty good example of just how bigoted this religion is:
The times demand Christian courage. These days, courage means that preachers and Christian leaders must set an agenda for biblical confrontation and not shrink from dealing with the full range of issues related to homosexuality. We must talk about what the Bible teaches about gender—what it means to be a man or a woman. We must talk about God’s gift of sex and the covenant of marriage. And we must talk honestly about what homosexuality is, and why God has condemned this sin as an abomination in His sight.
Courage is far too rare in many Christian circles. This explains the surrender of so many denominations, seminaries and churches to the homosexual agenda. But no surrender on this issue would have been possible if the authority of Scripture had not already been undermined.
And another gem … .
Let’s get this straight — God’s condemnation of sin is not determined by science, but by God’s Word. The Bible could not be more clear — all forms of homosexual behavior are expressly condemned as sin. In so doing the Bible uses its strongest vocabulary and places this condemnation in the larger context of the Creator’s rightful expectation of our stewardship of the sexual gift. All manifestations of homosexuality are thus representations of human sinfulness and rebellion against God’s express will. Nothing can alter this fact, and no discovery in science or any other human endeavor can change God’s verdict.
Don’t think that I am picking on Christians in general, but when hypocracy like this hits the news- I’ll likely be “all over it”. The same as I would if I learned that a cop robbed a bank or if I learn of a teacher that can’t read or a doctor that likes to kill people for fun. It’s interesting that you don’t hear too many stories like that though do you?

I dunno, I am sooooo not shocked that something like this happened. Hey, you on for July 11th? epicureanparadox (at) gmail (dot) com
Actually, I hear stories like that all the time. Crooked cops. Illegitimate teachers. Malpracticing doctors. People falling short of the public’s general expectations. What I find is that the individual in question, who has acted outside of the appropriate expectations placed on them, is reprimanded – not the entire organization of which they were tied to. It would be narrow minded to crucify thousands of honest and qualified teachers, police officers and doctors for the mistakes/shortcomings of a mere one. Likewise, it would be a mistake to do the same to members of any particular Church. One individual’s hypocrisy surely doesn’t reflect the morality of thousands.
Sad to say we hear news of that kind…
Yes, but we really should not be surprised. After all, they already give out mental abuse in droves, why can they not go the further step?
While the lawyers took aim at the Roman Catholic Church,a la Jeffrey Anderson, studies showed that incident rate of sexual abuse was at least double in public schools. The same studies showed the incident rate in other Christian denominations were equal or greater than that of Catholic priests. And I doubt those secular humanists are doing any better.
Hi Stace:
Not on topic, but I think you will really, really enjoy Osmani Simanca’s latest cartoon. Look closely – there are at least 5 very nice details in it:
Escher Evolution
Alright ¿ ЄИЇĢМÃ ? – I just had a look – I need some help! (just had a fresca and vodka)
fc – I sent you a reply – but YES, I’ll be there.
All human beings fall short of being perfect, and any church member of any denomination should be truthful and humble enough to admit that all people sin. Church pastors, Sunday School taeachers, you, me, and every human being commits sin of some form or another. Being a believer is not the same as being holy and/or righteous. Anytime we hear stories of someone screwing up royally at trying to be perfect should not be a shock to anyone. Sad, yes, but not shocking.
How is condeming homosexuality being a bigot? Hating black people would make me a bigot; making fun of Mexians might make me a bigot. Incidently, I don’t do either of those things. About 20% of the students I work with are international. Telling people homosexuality is a sin is not bigotry. Every person on earth is made in God’s image and likeness, and he loves every single one more than we probably give him credit for. I will admit there are some haters, but not every SBC Christian is a hater. When you see Fred Phelps carrying sandwhich boards at military funerals that proclaim “God hates fags,” I want you to know that I wish he and his church would drop dead just as much as you do. Homosexual practice is an abomination; but it is the sin God hates, not his children that commit sin – just like we all do.
God loves all people; God hates all sin. We would do well to remember that more often, and I say that to the believer and unbeliever alike.
More on Escher Evolution.

Bigot
Big”ot\, n. [F. bigot a bigot or hypocrite, a name once given to the Normans in France. Of unknown origin; possibly akin to Sp. bigote a whisker; hombre de bigote a man of spirit and vigor; cf. It. s-bigottire to terrify, to appall. Wedgwood and others maintain that bigot is from the same source as Beguine, Beghard.]
1. A hypocrite; esp., a superstitious hypocrite. [Obs.]
2. A person who regards his own faith and views in matters of religion as unquestionably right, and any belief or opinion opposed to or differing from them as unreasonable or wicked. In an extended sense, a person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals; one obstinately and blindly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.
To doubt, where bigots had been content to wonder and believe. –Macaulay. Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.
Oh -BTW – Thanks for proving my point.
The evil in human mind may not necessarily be subdued by religion. Even those who preach the gospel and advocate righteousness in Christ are as evil and sinful more than those whom they preach upon.
